Glenn from AR maglock actually said you dont need to use a spring and recommends cutting it to make it easier to reinstall the kingpin if you decide to take it out. I replaced mine with a toothpick and it works like a charm. I.e. i dont need to use my nails to pull the defend back in order to reinstall the kingpin. See the IG post from Glenn.Description.
